Sheila Taft

Sheila is a 3rd generation American  of Jewish Russian descent who was

raised in New York City.  After several successful years in private business creating fashionable dining venues in the New York area, Sheila changed direction, packed up her family, and headed South where she decided to dedicate her life to Public Service.  Her first position was as an assistant

to attorney Alex Daud who had aspirations to run for the office of Mayor of

Miami Beach, Florida.  Turning her creative expertise toward his Mayoral campaign, Sheila was instrumental in his election success.

She continued working for The Mayor at The City of Miami Beach, and that

then led to a position in the City’s legal department.  There she addressed

council and commission member concerns, and lobbied for many agenda items.  Her involvement with governmental and public figures was a perfect match for Sacred Grounds as Sheila has contributed to its long term strategy, viability

and eventual success.  She writes, “Several years ago I met Mahli Lieblich

and she spoke of her dream of a unique and very extraordinary project

that she hoped to build on the grounds of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland.

I was immediately mesmerized by her words and invited her to my home.

She, as a dreamer and creator of miracles, and me as a poet and believer

in what might seem impossible, sat together.  We wrote many beautiful words about the dream of Sacred Grounds.  So, with the creator, and with a poet

along with many other incredible people on this journey, our belief in the

miracle of the Sacred Grounds Memorial is just a matter of earth bound time.

It is not a question of "if", but  an answer of "when".
